Project Update & Giveaway! :D

Working on a lot of artwork! These are some concept/warm up sketches. :)

Miki has this weird way of looking like a totally different little girl from one drawing to the next... while still being very much herself.

The colored one is actually done with watercolor FIRST and then some pencil and ink lines to make it easier to see. I am considering working with watercolors (for the ballet book at least) if I can improve quickly in how I work with them! Otherwise: crayons. Who doesn't love crayons? (And why?!)

I am also here to announce the first opportunity to help with the creative side of the book making process AND to win something pretty cool!

I am going to need some other dancers for Miki's ballet class! I have a few other characters, but I would love to have a little more variation between who is in her ballet class and who is in her school class. As such, I open the floor to YOU!

Describe, briefly, an eight year old (boy or girl!) to be a dancer. It can be a real person or one you make up. I will choose two to be in the book! If yours gets chosen I will send you one of the two ballet "I Can Read" books that I grew up with: "All Tutus Should Be Pink" or "The Baseball Ballerina." Just send your suggestions to  (Sir's email address) or in the comments below! (Just be sure to leave YOUR email address!)  Runner ups may get something too, we'll see. :)

Thank you for your help!

P.S. Don't forget to check out the Kickstarter!

NEW! Miki and Sir to appear in BOOK FORM! :D

Please support the stories! I will continue to post things up on the blog. Some of it will just be progress updates, but there will also be one shot stories and illustrations as well as giveaways here at

Any questions can be directed to our formspring!
You can ask the characters questions as well as Colleen. Just put the character name in parentheses or something so I know who should respond!

Thank you for your continued support! Please stay tuned!

Reading Update!

Hello everyone! Miki here with a book challenge update!

Today was a snow day so I got a chance to read more than I usually do! (I do not count school books.)

Sir and I read “The House I’ll Build for the Wrens” this morning. It was really fun and not hard. (Sir is not a very good reader.) It is like that song about the bear hunt where things keep getting added and repeated and then at the end you have to go through everything backwards really, really fast!

On my own I read “Fancy Nancy,” which Miss Rauch recommended. It is a VERY silly book! I really love the part where they all dress up in silly outfits to go out for parfaits. (That’s fancy for ice cream!) There were a lot of words I had never heard before, like chauffer chauffeur. A chauffeur is someone who drives you places. If it does not snow again tomorrow, Sir will be my chauffeur and take me to school. What a fancy word!

I also started reading “Dinosaurs Before Dark” which is the first book in the Magic Tree House series. (Miss Rauch, our librarian, recommended this one to me as well!) It is a chapter book about Jack and his sister Annie. So far they have found a tree house full of books, but no dinosaurs. Hopefully there will be dinosaurs in the NEXT chapter.

Tonight Sir and I will read another Little Bear story from the “Little Bear Treasury.” We LOVE Little Bear! Do you?

That is everything I read today. If there is no school again tomorrow maybe I will read more books! I have picked a few picture books out already. What are YOU reading?

A Note from Miss Rauch: Sir's Apron in "Miki's World, Pt. 1"

Every time I draw Sir in an apron I use a reference. Generally that reference is a sewing pattern. Why? Because sewing is awesome. (Just ask Sir!) Also, this means that if you know how to/learn how to sew you can have the same apron!

Happy New Year! :D

Hello! Miki here!

Miss Rauch is VERY busy working on some new stories to put up here. I am filling in to tell you about something I am VERY excited about:

I made a very cool New Year’s Resolution. (A resolution is a goal, Sir told me so.)

This year I am going to read 100 books! I am using a website called to track my progress. (You can see for yourself in the right hand sidebar!) The nice thing about this is that if you follow me you can actually read along with me if you want to! I will be posting what page I am on and saying a little bit about each book as I go through them. You can also recommend books to me by leaving a comment here or on my twitter (eleisonkay) or by sending Sir an email (!

I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season. See you soon!

(Thank you to Miss Goodman for taking this snazzy picture.)

Happy Holidays From Miki and Sir!

Notes From Miss Rauch:
Again, apologies for the lack of updates. Starting as story during the Christmas season was possibly not the best idea ever. However, it started during this season for a reason! Above is the line-art for my Christmas card this year! This card is actually what inspired me to combine two stories that were going nowhere- that of Mikayla and that of (Sir) Theo. The result is, of course, "Miki and Sir."

Updates will resume in the New Year.

Happy Holidays!
